Friends of the James E. Shepard Memorial Library are advocates for advancing the library. As varied as the books and technology within the library, Friends are students, teachers, physicians, homemakers, retirees, business leaders, professors, bankers, lawyers, and community volunteers. In 1991, ardent supporters from the Durham community and North Carolina Central University campus organized a Friends Group to help perpetuate resources, promote interest and broaden the awareness of our Library and its services. Friends come from all walks of life. However, they have one thing in common — a deep appreciation of our library's importance to North Carolina Central University and the community.
