EDU 3310 CBE: Foundations of Literacy Assessment and Instruction: Project 1

Project 1 Competency and Sub-Competencies

Competency 1:  Can explain current trends in early literacy assessment and instruction that are appropriate for elementary students.

Sub-competencies:

  • Candidates will describe current trends in literacy assessment and the implications for classroom practice.
  • Candidates will describe the factors associated with literacy acquisition and development at the proficient level.
  • Candidates will explain the purposes, protocols for administration, and scoring procedures for a variety of literacy assessments at the K-2 and 3-5 level.

Project Deliverables
Create a Multimedia Literacy Assessment Guide that elementary school teachers can use as a reference for key concepts for early literacy and common literacy assessments. Your guide should include the following:

  • Glossary of terms for literacy foundations (Quizlet link)
  • Distinguish between a variety of types of assessment (screening, diagnostic, progress monitoring, etc.)
  • Protocols for key assessments for K-6 literacy (purpose, steps, scoring)
  • Annotated video links (assessment tutorials)
  • References

As a multimedia tool, your guide should include graphics, hyperlinks, and embedded content (audio and visual as appropriate).
