Purpose of this Guide

Welcome!

  • Are you getting ready to write a paper for one of your courses?
  • Have you already visited the library and found a bunch of articles or books on your topic? (If not, come see us at the Reference Desk!)
  • Are you now wondering what to do to turn all these sources into an actual paper?

If so, this is the guide for you!

The purpose of this LibGuide is to help you take library resources and use them effectively in your papers. It will cover the basics of effective note-taking, three different ways to use source material in your writing (summarize, paraphrase, and quote), and give you citation resources to help you properly cite your sources.

If you still have questions, please come visit the Shepard Library reference desk for more help!
