Using Sources in Your Papers

Explains note-taking, summarizing, paraphrasing, quoting, and citing sources.

Style Manuals and Related Books

You may eventually need to purchase your own style manual, especially once you have entered your major, but Shepard Library keeps copies of the most frequently used manuals. You can use these by asking at the Reference Desk, on the second floor, and they must be used in the library.

Citation Management Tools

Citation management tools allow you to save citations of research as you go and create both bibliographies and in-text citations automatically. You can use these tools as long as you are a student at NCCU.

EndNote is software that you can download to the computer you use to do your research and writing.

Zotero is a similar tool to Refworks. It is the open resource on the web.

If you have questions about using any of these tools, ask a staff member!

Other Citation Resources

These resources can help you with citations if you don't have a style manual.
