Borrowing Materials From Other Libraries

Shepard Library can borrow materials from other libraries on behalf of its users.  If you need a book, journal article or other item that Shepard Library does not have, you can obtain items by placing an online interlibrary loan request.  Create an an ILL account for yourself by clicking on the link below. Follow the instructions for "first time users."

📖 How to Borrow Books from NCCU Libraries

1. Search for the Book

2. Locate the Book

  • Write down the call number and location listed in the catalog.

  • Most physical books are located in the General Collection (2nd floor of Shepard Library).

3. Bring Your NCCU ID

  • Your Eagle Card (student/faculty ID) is your library card.

  • Bring it with you to check out materials.

4. Check Out at the Circulation Desk

  • Go to the Circulation Desk (1st floor).

  • Present your book(s) and Eagle Card to a staff member to check out.

Shepard Memorial Library, the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service enables students, faculty, and staff to request materials not available within the NCCU library system. 📚 How to Request Materials via Interlibrary Loan

1. Search NCCU's Library Catalog

  • Before submitting an ILL request, search the NCCU Library Catalog to ensure the item isn't already available.

2. Access ILLiad

  • If the item isn't available, log in to ILLiad.

  • First-time users should click on the “First-Time Users” link to register and create a username and password.nccu.edu

3. Submit a Request

  • Once logged in, select the appropriate request form (e.g., book, article) and provide detailed information about the item.

  • If the request is urgent, indicate this in the comments section.

4. Track Your Request

5. Receive Your Materials

  • Physical items can be picked up at the Shepard Library Reference Desk.

  • Electronic materials, such as journal articles, will be delivered via email.nccu.edu+1nccu.edu+1

  • Eligibility: Current NCCU students, faculty, and staff are eligible to use the ILL service.

  • Cost: Most ILL requests are free. If a lending library charges a fee, you will be notified for approval before the request is processed.nccu.edu
