Project Competency:

Can analyze the historical background of science, science initiatives, and the subsequent impact on teaching elementary science in the 21^st century.

Sub-Competencies:

• Explore initiatives that affect how science is taught and learned (21^st Century Skills, Formative Assessment, Closing Achievement Gaps, etc.).
• Develop an awareness of and appreciation for the historical background of science, the rapid expansion and change of scientific knowledge, and the impact of science on society.

Deliverable:

1.     Narrated presentation on the historical background of science, rapid change of scientific knowledge, and its impact on society

2.     Desktop published handout that explains key initiatives that affect how science should be taught and learned in the 21^st century

3.     Your philosophy of teaching science at the elementary level
